During periods of low ambient temperature, a 250 MW power station experienced recurring premature lifting and failure to reseat of the Pressure Safety Relief Valve (PSRV) downstream of the Light Distillate Oil (LDO) forwarding pumps while running on partial load. To resolve this without forcing a shutdown, operators were instructed to immediately increase the gas turbine’s load by 10 MW. This surge in load accelerated fuel demand and instantly lowered the downstream LDO piping pressure, allowing the PSRV to safely close and reseat. Once stabilized, the turbine was gradually returned to its original load setpoint.
